Kenpom says we have a 1% chance of winning this game, and, honestly, that sounds high. This figures to be a case of an irresistible force meeting a moveable object. In particular, they have a bunch of guys who are great at crashing the offensive glass, and, without Luca, we simply don't have the size to compete there. Every defensive rebound we get will be a minor miracle.
Our lack of size also means we probably won't be able to finish in the paint on the other end. I'm expecting a steady diet of contested mid-range jumpers from Hinton, and threes from everybody else. If we don't make a good percentage of them, we'll lose by 40 instead of 20.
Barbour could be an important player for us today. He always seems to grab a surprising number of rebounds when he's on the court, and the numbers bear that out; his 17% defensive rebound rate is very solid for a guard. We're also going to need him to knock down a couple of threes if we're going to keep this from being an epic embarrassment.

Big effort. Pigge and Batties are very competitive with Nelson and Hinton contributing nicely. Things looked really grim as St. John’s bullied its way to a 9-0 lead.
I had thought Penn and Harvard might battle for 6th/7th this season, maybe catching Brown. However, Dartmouth’s ability to knock off BC on the road suggests the Big Green might not be a lock for the basement.

St.John’s gave us the bad shooting performance we needed to have a chance last night. We just couldn’t take advantage. Lesmond, Nelson, Hinton, and Batties shot a combined 3 of 18 on threes, almost all of them good looks too. This wasn’t a case of St. John’s forcing us into tough shots; we had our chances. It was too bad Barbour twisted his ankle because he was just about the only guy knocking down shots for us in the first half. He’s a solid contributor.
Still, we competed hard, held our own much more than I would have guessed on the boards. Just need to get everybody healthy…

On the day Lou Carnesecca passed away, playing at the Carnesecca Arena (which I knew as a kid as Alumni Hall) was appropriate. Harvard stood in there against a very athletic team, which bodes well for them in the competition for 4th place.
