Here's a quote from a recent article on Coach Calipari's gang:
"Njoya is the fourth Tiger to be suspended since this preseason, joining Jeremy Hunt (altercation on Beale Street), Andre Allen (patronizing a prostitute) and Kareem Cooper (marijuana arrest)."

A fifth Tiger still on the roster, Clyde Wade, was arrested for credit card fraud although a relative eventually took the rap for him.

There have also been the usual academic issues but Memphis usually doesn't publicize those.
In other years, a number of Tigers have been arrested also, so this is nothing new for them.

Guys, I apologize for this Tennessee piece of garbage. His team got embarrassed today, so he's attempting to pile onto the premier basketball school in the state. Of course, he'll never mention the issues his hellhole school attempts to hide under the rug, but that's another story for another day.
We've had our issues in the past, without a doubt. Most schools do...but bottom line, we're in for a great game tomorrow.
Best of luck, guys...and once again, sorry this human filth had to come visit over here.

Cal dismissed Hunt and Njoya from the team.
Allen and Cooper were briefly suspended and were told that was their only chance. It's either stay clean or hit the road.
Wade was charged and went to trial. A jury found him not guilty. Over the year and a half that Wade was charged until he went to trial, Cal suspended Wade from games. He was able to practice with the team but could not play nor could he travel. Even though he was found innocent, he lost a year of eligibility.
However, three weeks ago two Volunteer players were arrested on charges of possession of crack cocain with intent to distribute. GoVols failed to mention that. But that's understandable seeing how cocain possession is a normal occurrence in the Vol athletic program since at least back in the 80s.
Sorry to bore you with all this. Here's to a great, injury-free game.

I was an undergrad at UMass during the Calipari years so the arrest records of his players do not surprise me. It's what you sign up for when you hire him as coach - kind of a deal with the devil. He will recruit great players, most of whom do not belong in any institute of higher education.
At UMass we had our Marcus Camby scandal and a few others before he left. If you look for our name in the NCAA record books the year we reached the Final Four (1996), you'll see just a blank space where the name UMass should be - all references to that team have been expunged from the record book and we had to give back all the money.
Anyway, if all you want to do is win basketball games, then Calipari is a great choice. Jerry Tarkanian lite.

I think if you check the NCAA record books, Calipari was explicitly cleared of any wrong doing.
I can't speak about Cal prior to his time in Memphis, but since he's been here he's been an incredible citizen.
He put together a program with Larry Brown, Allen Iverson and the NBA to build 10 community basketball courts all over the city.
He permitted use of his name to a local steak house, Cal's Championship Steaks, provided that 10% of all profits are donated to the university.
He has donated personal money to the university.
A kid names Rashid Dunbar was a Top 50 recruit coming out of high school. He signed with the Miami Hurricans. During the summer after his senior high school year before his freshman year at Miami he was in a bad car accident.
He and some friends had been playing ball at a neighborhood court. They were driving home when they were struck by another car. Rashid was in a coma for nine days. The doctors didn't know if he would ever play basketball again.
Miami pulled their offer. Cal heard about it and offered Rashid a scholarship. He said Rashid may or may not be able to play ball again but he'll get a college education.
Rashid tried for two years to come back but he suffers permanent dizziness and can't play ball.
But he earned a college degree from the University of Memphis because John Calipari cared enough about him to make a difference in his life.
