Easily our best game of the year. The defense was spectacular. The activity on the offensive glass was too. Lilly got a lot of points in semi-garbage time, but, up until then, Lesmond did a superb job on him (just like he did last year too). Brown had a lot of unforced turnovers, but we were great getting in passing lanes and ripping the ball out.
Pigge had a grown man’s game on the boards and using his strength to score inside; even knocked in a few threes, which is huge for us if he can be a real threat from there. Hinton had his best game in probably a month or so. The three he made to start the second half really set the tone (which will hopefully help his confidence given the way he’s turned down open looks from three the last couple of weeks)
If we can continue to guard like this, we’ll have a chance in these games. Columbia and Dartmouth certainly showed a lot in their close losses. Every game is going to be a battle in conference.

Penn much tougher inside than Brown. Penn’s Roberts was the difference. Do other Ivies take transfers like Penn does?

Penn is bad but they’re a bad matchup for us because they’re pretty much the only Ivy team that has an actual center and can really exploit our lack of size. We had to either watch Spinoso back us down for easy layups or double and give up open threes. Next time we need to do a better job forcing him into turnovers.

I'm reticent to suggest this, but noting that 3 of Penn's 5 leaders in minutes and scoring (including its leading scorer by a large margin) are each transfers new to Penn this season. I wonder if that is strategically the path for Ivy teams? I say so because the system translates into better players leaving for NIL deals, decimating some rosters. If we don't want to compete with $ and scholarships, we have to utilize our League Brand. I think that players from some programs would love to finish up in our league and earn an Ivy degree. Penn has added one Junior who played at 2 separate Junior Colleges, another Junior who left Mercer, and another Junior(?) who started at Army and redshirted at Drake.
If we only get a year or two out of players like Mack and Okpara, do we just accept the void or fill it? Seems that's what the current NCAA system is offering us, but we're not interested in taking it. I'm sure that there are very talented players who would love to play for and graduate from Ivy Schools. I know some may find it unsightly, but it's already being done -Penn took 3 players this way in one year and each has two years of eligibility. For all the crap the Penn board is giving Donahue, he's the one guy who has evaluated the system and is executing a current strategy.
