There is a hint in these stories that some Ivy schools recruited Joakim Noah. Is this true?

Noah played on the same Lawrenceville team as David Whitehurst. I think there was some Ivy interest early but I believe he quickly took himself out of the Ivy pool.

As I recall most of Penn's interest was when he was at the UN School and Poly Prep. By the time he got to Lawrenceville he was beyond Ivyland. There may have also been some academic issues, but I'm not sure of that.

It is hard to believe that a kid has to go to prep school for a year to go to Florida.

Florida has actually become a rather difficult school to get into. I guess the quality of the education has improved over the years, but probably of more importance is the illusion that Gainesville is some kind of garden spot. Or maybe the party school rep is the attraction. I found the education there to be very much wanting, although the ease with which a studious individual could make excellent grades eased my way into Penn.

Speaking of former Quaker recruiting targets, I wonder if Paul Johnson is happy he chose LaSalle over Penn. Or George Mason.

I'm sure Noah was admissible to Florida without prep school. He probably went to mature a little and put on some extra weight. He's slim now but at Lawrenceville he was still a toothpick. It was hard to imagine how he could survive the banging in the SEC. It will be interesting to see how he defends Jai Lewis and eventually Big Baby Davis.
P.S.: Florida is not a hard school to get into for 6-11 studs.

Writing the Patriots off already, are we? Can't say that I blame you. Still, I don't see that it HAS to turn out the same way it did in 1979. The lead stories then were Larry Bird and Earvin Johnson, eclipsing even the fact that a #9-seeded (of ten) Ivy champion had become the first school in history to win four games into the Final Four. This year, in contrast, it seems that George Mason being there, is the lead story.

I for one am not writing off GM. I do take note though that UF is red hot. They have beaten up on all their competition in this tournament and won the SEC tournament. B-Dov has them peaking at just the right time.

In Florida's 2 comfortable wins over LSU, the numbers for both players were quite similar. It looks like they offset each other and the other players provided the differential.
