hoffarber played very well at the reebok abcd last week according to several sources.
collegehoopsnet rated his camp performace an 'a-' (they only handed out one 'a') and a rivals article commented with surprise about his lack of high-major offers. i guess thats what you get for shooting 81% from beyond the arc through the first couple days and 58% overall.
sounds great... but sadly in our case you have to hope the kid is 'off' for the major camps, much like pat behan was last year.

In response to ericatbucknell
Well, unless Mr. Hoffarber is the rare hoops player who really values a first-class education, it looks like we won't be seeing him in a Bison uniform. He apparently played really well at the Vegas ABCD CAmp. From Scout:
"Blake Hoffarber said he has around 20 offers from mid-major schools and picked up free rides from Cincinnati, Rutgers and Washington State since the ABCD camp while Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State and Pitt have also shown interest since then."

I know that Scout, Rivals, etc miss a lot of the names (they never had Evans, Behan, or Tyree last year), but it is interesting that virtually no names show up for what is clearly the biggest Bison need for 2007-08: a center. At worst, a good big man would have a chance to play 20 minutes a game and would have a shot to compete for a starting job. That is why someone like Zack Crimmins would be a good fit. On the other hand, the other PL school Crimmins is looking at, Holy Cross, will return four big men in 2007-08 (Clifford, McCarthy, Meister, Keister).
Our other possible need for the next incoming class is another point guard but, judging by the names, that spot will likely be addressed.

from the same site:
"Last spring and summer Tompkins led the Young Gunz 16U National Travel team in some of the biggest AAU tournaments in the Country. In Washington DC last spring Tompkins putting on a shooting display, hitting 6 three balls and scoring 28 pts in front of Florida State and Miami. Both Coaches were impressed with his shooting ability and showed early interest. In Las Vegas and Los Angelos tompkins caught the eye of Coaches from Clemson, Bucknell, and Massachuettes."

Todd O'Brien 08-22-06 11:43 PM - Post#19094
In response to ericatbucknell
Recent articles indicate O'Brien (see above) has received offers from Iowa State, St Johns, and Bucknell, among others. Although the others clearly are in higher profile leagues, he does say some positive things about the Bison:
"Recruiting wise thing picked up for O'Brien after his performance at the Eastern Invitational. "It picked up a lot. There are a lot of schools, a lot of mid-majors and high-majors. I got an offer from Iowa State, Bucknell, and I'm really going to look into Bucknell." Currently O'Brien knows a few unofficial visits, and is beginning to plan his official visits. "I'm going up to take an unofficial to St. John's, then later in the month I'm going to George Washington to take an unofficial there. If I had to pick where I would take my officials right now, but I still have a month to do all of that, it would be St. Joe's, George Washington, Bucknell, St. John's, and either Clemson, LaSalle, Xavier, or Iowa State."
When asked if playing in a power conference is something that really appeals to him, O'Brien said, "Yeah it sort of matters. If I go to an A-10 I want to go to one that has a strong schedule. St. Joe's they play Villanova, Xavier plays some good competition, Bucknell, even through their league isn't strong they play other teams from strong conferences, plus the academics are really good there."
While O'Brien isn't exactly sure which schools he wants to visit, he does know when he expects to make a decision, "I want to make a decision before the end of September. End of August, early September, I'm going to take my officials. Then I will cut it down to like two or three and then make a decision by the end of September." " http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/news?slug=rivals-47951&prov=rivals&type=story_recruiting
Maybe this is a kid who really values education as well as basketball. If so, we may have a shot since BU is clearly the best academic school among his choices.

A couple of web blurbs on Nitoto:
Kareem Nitoto 6’3 Oakland, Ca is a true talented basketball player. This young man starts his game on the defensive side of the ball and will take away the passing lanes from 1st and 2nd options, because he has long arms that allow him to play as if he’s a 6’6 defender. Nitoto has explosive dribble entry and can pass the ball in the paint finding the big men for easy lay ups. Nitoto game is not flashy, but the young man will give you 125% effort on offense and defense. Nitoto needs to open up more on the offensive end of the floor by taking open shot, which would allow coaches to see he can hit the jumper from 17 to 22 feet range. The 3.5 grade point average allows the resume of Nitoto to place him as a Major Division 1 prospect. http://www.showtimehoops.com/media.php?l...ate=July%2029th,%202006&&position=&&category=Scouting%20Report
Very good combo-guard has the Ivy League hot on his trail (very good student) as well as several Big West and WCC programs in the hunt. Athletic defender is very impressive beating opponents off the dribble. http://www.drawingboard.simplysmartwebs.com/page/page/3738280.htm
As a sophomore - "He has good size for the point guard spot and generally looked like a good playmaker. Not overly quick, his size can help make up for that, and he's not a liability in terms of being a non-scoring threat." http://www.hoopville.com/rss/article.asp?EntryID=12364 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sounds like a real good prospect but, unless he really values academics, he is probably not heading to Bucknell, at least according to this Scout report from six weeks ago: "Kareem Nitoto, a 6-2 junior guard from Northern California, is an intriguing prospect who might play point guard or shooting guard in college. He told us recently that he has Pac-10 and SEC schools at the top of his list..."

One more name - Jimmer Fredette 09-10-06 01:00 AM - Post#19098
In response to ericatbucknell
An article in FoxSports lists Bucknell as one school of interest for combo guard Jimmer Fredette, from the Albany area. He has been offered by BYU, Utah, Siena, and UMass, and I doubt if he ends up in Lewisburg. Someone on the Siena board indicated that he is a Mormon and thinks he will end up at BYU.
From FoxSports: http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/5924750 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is one aspect of the game that 6-3 guard/forward Jimmer Fredette does pretty well -- shooting the rock. Fredette, who plays for Jim Hart's Albany City Rocks' program during the summer, impressed many college coaches with his solid shooting during the month of July. The Rocks were able to advance to the Sweet 16 of the Main Event in Las Vegas and also finished third at a national tournament in Orlando, Florida. The Rocks lost to the talent rich Boo Williams program.
"I thought it was a good summer," Jimmer said. "The team played well. Boo Williams had many big forwards. So it was tough playing them. But I thought the team did well."
The Rocks did have a great summer but so did Fredette. His shooting skills would be an asset to any basketball program. And schools have noticed. "I am going to visit BYU on September 8th," Fredette said. "And then I am visiting Siena the following weekend."
Marshall, William & Mary, Lehigh, Bucknell, and Northeastern have also expressed serious interest in signing Fredette this Fall. If Fredette decided to wait beyond the Fall, Seton Hall, North Carolina State, and Indiana could jump in depending upon how the recruiting process shapes out for those programs in the Fall. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A player profile is linked below from TripleDoubleExposure. They seem to love him a lot more than the other scouting services, having him ranked 48th in the nation for his class. Scout/Rivals don't have him nearly that high. http://www.tripledoubleexposure.com/custom/player_profile.php?id=359
With Darryl Shazier having committed to the Bison, I wonder if we're still in the market for another guard. It may depend on whether Pat can bring in three or four players and, of course, who ultimately is available.

In response to
Yes, as I mentioned previously, the folks on the Siena board have expected Fredette, who is a Mormon, to go to BYU all along. We may have had interest in him, but I don't think he ever had interest in us. The bigger impication in this is that Kyle Griffin, who apparently has Siena plus Richmond and Bucknell on this final list, may now be more of a priority for Siena. Had they signed Fredette, who their staff liked better than Griffin, then they likely would have lost interest in Griffin. As it is, they apparently also have a couple of other guards they are recruiting so Griffin is still not their only target, especially since they will have three good guards still there in 2007-08. Still, however, their not signing Fredette changes the landscape somewhat.
