Andy Katz had two interesting notes on his Insider blog...First, Kansas is looking for a gimme game on Dec. 19. I am not sure if the Bison have a game scheduled then, but with Texas Tech 4 days later, why not make it a midwest road trip. The Bison would hardly be the gimme game Kansas wants (they know first hand), but don't you think the people in Lawrence would love the chance for revenge. I'd take an overly-hyped nationally televised game against the possible preseason #1 team:

• Kansas released its schedule last week with a TBA on Dec. 19th. That's because the Jayhawks are locked into that date but are still searching for a team. The latest offer is at $60,000. Assistant athletic director Larry Keating said the rumor being gossiped about that the Jayhawks were offering much more wasn't true. Expect this to be a gimme game sandwiched in the middle of a run of at DePaul, USC, Toledo, and then, after this game, Boston College, all within three-week period.

Katz next post suggests that the BU-Texas Tech game could be surrounded by a ton of hype. Katz projects when Bobby Knight will surpass Dean Smith as the all-time wins leader. Katz predicts Tech to beat the Bison to put him one shy of Smith. However, he projects three losses prior to the Bucknell game, so if Tech were to actually enter the game with only 1 loss, the game would be for the record; with 2 losses, it would be for the tie. This helps explain how this game got an ESPN2 slot, as I am sure ESPN has locked up all of Tech's games when Knight could break the record. It is also interesting to note that Arkansas is the game immediately before Bucknell:

Bob Knight enters the season 10 wins shy of tying Dean Smith's all-time Division I win record of 879. Texas Tech released its nonconference schedule, so let's play the game of when Knight will break the record:

• Nov. 11 -- Sam Houston State (let's say win No. 870);
• Nov. 13-14 -- first two rounds of Guardians Classic (teams to be determined, but trust us, they won't let the Red Raiders get beaten before Kansas City, so 872);
• Nov. 17 -- North Dakota State (No. 873);
• Nov. 20 -- Guardians semifinal in Kansas City, likely against Duke (let's say an L);
• Nov. 21 -- Guardians consolation/final in Kansas City (likely Stanford with Marquette moving on to play Duke, so let's give Tech a win for No. 874);
• Nov. 25 -- at UTEP (we'll say L ... very tough place to play);
• Nov. 29 -- at TCU (not as hard. Knight is one of the best at games after losses, so we'll say win for No. 875);
• Dec. 3 -- Stanford in the Pete Newell Challenge in San Jose (we'll say the Cardinal win this one);
• Dec. 6 -- at Louisiana Tech (no Paul Millsap will mean a tough go for the Bulldogs , so we'll say its No. 876);
• Dec. 9 -- Centenary (Gentlemen live up to nickname, get Knight to No. 877);
• Dec. 16 -- at Arkansas in Little Rock (loss);
• Dec. 23 -- Bucknell (win for No. 878);
• Dec. 28 -- UNLV (too close not to win this one at home for No. 879 and the tie);

That means Knight can kick the new year off right on Jan. 1 by taking down New Mexico.
