That game was at Tech, which is a very tough place to play.
USF also crushed St. Joe's at home and lost by only 10 at Stanford.
This does not appear to be a team that can be taken lightly.

Well, St. Joe's lost to Bucknell, which lost to Penn and Princeton and beat Yale and Cornell, and the Hawks have generally looked a bit out-of-sync. Stanford lost to Santa Clara, badly to Michigan State, and just yesterday to Washington State. So of course they should not be taken lightly but I would think that they will not be as difficult as, say, Villanova.

I know we like to shy away from the "we beat team A, team A beat team B, so we should beat team B" logic, but I think it's appropriate here.
We handled Bucknell pretty easily, so we're at least equal to them in talent and ability. Is there anyone here that thinks Penn would have any prayer against Pitt? I'm thinking it would end w/ a 20+ point loss.

Pitt shot 52%, including 9-17 from 3, and had 15 offensive rebounds to 11 Bucknell defensive rebounds, and still lost at home because they made only 9 of 20 foul shots and committed 18 turnovers. Bucknell shot 51%, but the difference was 14-16 from the line. Bucknell lost a 12-point lead, but at the end they got stops without fouling and drew fouls on their end and made the free throws.
To answer SFQ's question, Yes, I think Penn would have a prayer against Pitt. Hit your shots, get to the foul line, don't give up big runs, don't get killed on the boards, you have a prayer against anyone.

Yes. I believe the current Penn team could beat Pitt, especially if they took us lightly.
The fact is that Chuck Daley's complaint about Dunphy conservatism does probably reduce the potential for upsets. Nevertheless, I would choose winning records and league titles over the occasional upset. Without scholarships, I am not certain that we can expect more unless we luck out some year with some Dwayne Wade caliber player.

That certainly is the Princeton recipe for staying in the game with anyone. Unfortunately, right now, it doesn't look like we could predict that Penn wouldn't get killed on the boards. That killed Penn against both Temple and Villanova, games in which Penn played at least even with the competition in the floor games, if not outplayed them. Right now, athletic frontcourts are devastating the Quakers. That shouldn't be a problem in the League, however.
