it's january 3 and harvard has already exceeded last year's win total. and after one game we're already ahead of last year pace in the ivies since we lost the ivy opener last year. sounds like cusworth hit the bit shots when they mattered most and stehle dominated. he won ivy player of the week this week and deserved it. those two are going to be tough for ivy teams to stop.

Not to play devil's advocate here, but the difference in Ivy starting position might be due to the swapping of home dates in alternate years. Last year, Harvard started on the road and blew a big lead up there. This year they got the Big Green at home to start. For this truly to be a new and improved squad, they've got to finish off Dartmouth at Leede. That being said, it has to be a bit of relief for the program to eclipse last year's win total in less than half the season.

True. Cusworth may be a candidate in the end for Player of the Year if he stays healthy. Harvard is for real, right?

I think any Player of the Year talk gets a bit too far ahead of the game. One could argue that Cusworth actually got outplayed by Gardner in the Dartmouth game, so it's difficult to say from that first game that he is a candidate. You also have to remember that last year's player of the year Jason Forte is back as are Wallace and Venable at Princeton. Look further down the list and you've got guys like Begley, Draughan and Preston.

Also, I think the talk of Cusworth as a candidate for POY is a bit misdirected. At this point, Matt Stehle would have to be the guy that you'd peg for that position...he's got an Ivy Player of the Week award under his belt and he dropped 25 on Dartmouth. Things will change during the season, but right now Stehle's the Harvard player with the most direct path to the award.

As for whether Harvard is for real...well, we'll find out tonight, won't we? A 2-0 start is a necessity in order to consider this team "for real."
