I know his ratings are notoriously out of whack as the season starts, but how is UP tied with the Lions as a top 60 team with its start? And how is Harvard, which played the boys from the Indiana plains tough, down at 246 and trailing Cornell after the Big Red was overrun by the Meeks of the East?

The introductory note at the site makes clear that the teams' "starting ratings," which are based on last year's result, are given weight in this year's ratings until a few weeks into the season, when all the teams are "connected" to every other team either by playing them or by having a common opponent. At that point, starting ratings are dropped.
Sagarin's ratings mean nothing until at least January.
