What's this shot at Penn fans within this week's Inside the Ivy feature? If some of us seem 'bi-polar', there are several good reasons for this:

1) We are fans. "Fan" is short for Fanatic. All fanatics have a few screws loose.
2) We have high expectations, we are easily disappointed.
3) Anyone who went to the Rider game should understand the depression that it caused.
4) It might have something to do with Philadelphia (ref; Iggles fans & Phils fans)
5) The Quaker team has been a bit bi-polar for the last decade or so, playing brilliantly one week and poorly the next.

I'm not bi-polar. My thoughts have been the same the whole year. Princeton should win, but Penn's got more talent and can win. Unfortunately, Fran was coaching stupidly and the fans had to call him on it. As he's improved, our fortunes have improved. Unfortunately, Fran and the team are likely at one point to "get a case of the stupids" during the fourteen games. I'd not be shocked at all for the Quakes to beat Princeton twice and still end up with 3 losses.

How do you perceive Coach Dunphy as having improved over the last few games?

Well, personally, the fact that he's used his bench, used timeouts well, and actually put the ball in Ibby and Oz's hands more running the offense has helped alot.

1) Ebede and Whitehurst. If I hear one more person say "He can't sub the guards, those guys can't play," I'm going to strangle him with a streamer. They can all play. (When Ebede was playing four minutes a game he was a human turnover. Now thats he's playing ten-+ minutes a game for a few games in a row, he's had only 4 TOs in his last 44 minutes.)

It's odd how it's some of the same people who rightfully laud Fran as a great recruiter then excuse his lack of subbing because the subs can't play. They can play. That's why he's a great recruiter. He just has to have confidence in them and they have to have confidence in themselves.

Last year in the three games heading into the Ivy season, Ibby Jaaber played 14 minutes TOTAL. Turns out he could play. Oz played a little more but rarely for more than a few minutes at a time as Copp's backup. Given a chance, he could play too. This year's subs are good enough to play significant minutes for any team left on Penn's schedule - if they get 15-25 minutes a game (combined) for Penn, things will be just fine.

The other thing that's made Penn better recently is that the guys have become more comfortable with each other. For the first part of the season, with Zoller limping and Jan starting, Penn was playing four new starters from last year and Begley was learning a new role. Of course there were going to be growing pains. To Fran's credit he slapped them around a bit and they seem to be shaping up at the right time.
