Truly was a class act, and it will be a shame to see him go.

I still don't see why Harvard didn't choose to make the change after last season, noting that the Crimson did pretty much as expected, if not a little better this year. But definitely a quality character guy that Harvard will be worse off for letting go.

Let the speculation begin on his replacement.

No doubt he was all class. Let's hope a new coach comes in with the promise of a rapid timetable on the new arena and a new level of support for the program. Otherwise, it will be more of the same.

Anytime Harvard really wants to be a power it can be a power in any sport. It will obtain a certain quantum of talent because it is Harvard and can adjust admission situations as needed to accomodate the rest. Nonetheless, Harvard in the winter is a Hockey-Wrestling school and a new coach should not believe that post the traditional honeymoon there will be the same support Murphy receives in football or that there is for wrestling or hockey or women's basketball where it is convenient to address a pool of players who can read and write only Dartmouth though frozen willchallenge because it has a tradition.
Long term, the opening is a shimmering in the water, swim out to it and it will not be there.

Wow, quite a runon paragraph. Anyhow, Cornell has always been Hockey/Wrestling school in the winter, and with the right coach they have now developed a top-half basketball program. No doubt Harvard can do the same if they so desire. They have more resources and are in a faaaaar better location for basketball.

I think Acobj's football analagy is correct. A new coach will be likely to gat committments from Scalese that Sullivan did not(or did not seek).

This article:

http://sports.bostonherald.com/college/basketball/view.bg?articleid=186639

claims that a.) Sullivan was working on a one-year contract this year and b.) the only way it was going to be renewed is if he finished first. Do you think he was applying for unemployment already after the end of last season?

The wild card in the Harvard situation is how long the new arena will take to build and how nice it is. If it's 4-5000 seats, we should start getting worried about Harvard taking basketball seriously. If it's another 2,000 seat bandbox, we know it's business as usual.
