Like most Ivy teams have in the past, Brown dropped both games in the tournament, but played two very close and competitive games. The first was to #4 Texas 8-2, in a game that they led 2-1 for thee innings and went into the eighth down only 4-2. The second was to a game Wake Forest team 4-2, in a pitcher's duel.

Jeff Dietz kept Texas off balance in Game 1, and got a standing O after leaving in the 7th for the job he did against one of the nation's most powerful lineups. Senior James Cramphin pitched a gem in his last game, going 8 2/3 giving up only 2 earned runs, both in the first inning. He cruised from there, and narrowly managed the loss. Great pitching performances from both guys.

In the end, this Brown team, one of the nation's best hitting squads, just didn't hit. Ivy POY Devin Thomas was 0-8 with 4Ks, and Jeff Dietz managed only one hit, a solo HR in the last inning of the Wake game.

Weird instance in the late innings of the Wake game, as Drabinski replaced four relief pitchers after they all faced one batter, with none of them getting the job done. The first reliever had to come out after the first pitch. He plunked a Wake batter, and was immediately visited by Drabinski. After Drabinski had crossed the third base line returning to the dugout, he went back onto the field briefly to replace a divot. This was counted as his second trip to the mound, and so he had to take the kid out after one pitch. He coached a great season, but clearly not a good showing by the Coach in the biggest game of his career.

Regardless, what a wonderful season for this Brown squad, easily Brown's best in modern history. In particular, congratulations to Devin Thomas, who was one of the greatest Brown players of all time, and who will almost certainly be drafted higher than any Brown player in recent memory in the upcoming draft (save Billy Almon, who went #1 overall in the early 70's). With a bunch of first teamers returning next year - including Ivy ace Dietz - Brown should be in the mix again in 2008.
LET'S go BRU-no (duh. nuh. nuh-nuh-nuh)
