Oklahoma's football program was just penalized by the NCAA - forfeiting all games for the 2005 season. (Should we call them the Lehigh of the midwest?) They will also apparently have to give up some scholarships for the next two years. According to the NCAA, Oklahoma's "failure to monitor" led to the university not detecting NCAA rules violations.
OU Must Forfeit
It is interesting that the person in charge of OU's compliance and compliance education department program at the time of the violations was Keith Gill, who was hired a few monthas ago as the new American Athletic Director. Gill, btw, also was the sports administrator for men's basketball at OU at the time Kelvin Sampson was committing about 900 recruiting violations. Furthermore, Gill was the man in charge of an earlier investigation into illegal employment of football players at the car dealership that ultimately cost OU these NCAA penalties. At that time, Gill announced "we have pursued the matter in exhaustive fashion over a five-month period ... we do not believe NCAA rules violations have occurred." (Translation: "We don't think the NCAA will discover any of the hundreds of violations that have occurred, and football is way too important here for us to turn ourselves in.")
I wonder who's watching Jeff Jones as he recruits his Juco's.
