Cohen had 26 points tonight in a 60-55 win over Valley Forge. His AFS team is now 12-4, with two of the losses at the hands of undefeated Hill School, which is one of the better teams in the country.

Cohen continues to heat up. He had 32 points and 10 rebounds in an easy win over LEAP Academy.

Cohen's team was - not surprisingly - beaten badly yesterday by Academy of the New Church, which is ranked #23 in the U.S. and has a case for a higher ranking than that. The final score was 65-39 - with Cohen getting 14 of his team's 39 points.

Cohen had 19 points yesterday in a 62-42 win against a team that on paper looked similar to them. His team is currently in second place in their league, with an overall record of 15-5.

Cohen last week moved past the 1000 point milestone for his career. Here's an article about it from the Philly Inquirer, plus a picture:

Yes, I had delayed posting this, hoping there would be some mention in the paper about the cause, but there has been nothing. Hopefully a minor injury or maybe just the flu or something. They play in their league semifinal tomorrow, so we may get some further info then.
Abington Friends - although less talented this year, including the loss of Keefer to Lehigh - has compiled a slightly better record: 7-1 in league and 18-5 overall, as opposed to 9-1 and 21-8 overall last year.
BTW, I can't remember if I posted about Ryan Ebner's injury last month. He had a high ankle sprain that kept him out a few weeks, although he returned to the court in late January.

Whatever injury/illness Cohen had was apparently minor since he played in their league semi-final game last night and scored 22 of their 59 points. Unfortunately Abington Friends lost - not sure if that is the end of their season or if there is any other playoffs that they can participate in.

I saw Bryan Cohen and Abington Friends defeat Church Farm School yesterday in front of a playoff crowd of 45 or 50 people. He had a solid game. Among the highlights were hitting a three in the last seconds before halftime to extend his team's lead to 4, and lots of hustle plays, deflections and steals on D.

Thanks. Sounds like the Cotterell Court crowd all came down to Abington.
Were you able to observe warmups? If so, any comments about his effective shooting range? Also any observations about his handle and also his defensive quickness?

Bryan Cohen - Signing and H.S. Season 02-19-08 07:56 PM - Post#44229

He didn't play point, but seemed to have a pretty good handle. He played the entire game. I saw people drive past him with their dribble a couple times, but he seemed like an able defender. He was definitely someone who was concentrating on his defense..has a very textbook d stance
Disclaimer: I LOVE the game, but I'm not an especially deft talent scout.

One more Cohen note. Hoopscoop just updated their rankings of the top 5th year players in the country yesterday. Cohen is now ranked #78 - three behind Mike Howlett and a bit ahead of Jon Edwards.
Eric, do you recall where Cohen was ranked in the most recent list before this one? I know he was #65 in the summer list but my recollection is that there was another list later in the fall after it became clearer which players were going to prep school.

he was 74. as per usual, the updated list includes several 'new' players, so the four position drop is more a function of a few new names than cohen falling in the rankings.
also, i THINK cohen ended his season on wednesday night in a private school playoff loss to solebury. bryan scored 15 in a first round win over church farm, followed by 10 in a 61-36 loss.

Thanks. I also think that game was their season-ender. Too bad they couldn't have won because it would have set up a State semi vs Hill, where Brian could have faced Ebner once again.
Hill has a good shot to reach the finals where they would likely have a rematch against a very good Academy of the New Church, who defeated Hill earlier in the year when Ebner was injured.

pretty sure he also played in the Donofrio classic.
From CAAInsider, reporting on Donofrio Classic games of 4/5-6:
"Bryan Cohen (2008, 6-4 SG) Committed to Bucknell
Bryan is a wing with good size. He has the ability to hit from the outside or drive to the basket. He’s a solid ball handler who will often use fakes to get by his man. He hit several three pointers throughout the contest. His shot was a bit inconsistent though. Bryan used his size to pull down several boards as well. He scored 18 points in the contest."
Cohen's Team Philly squad won by a score of 85-71. They also won their third round game this past weekend. The center for their team is 6'10" junior Jake Cohen (relation?) from Conestoga PA. His list of schools of interest include Penn State, Penn, LaSalle, and William and Mary. FWIW, has no stars from Rivals/Scout.
