6-8 big from the Gonzaga School in DC. Seemed destined from Princeton all along - his dad and uncle both played there, but a quality pickup nonetheless. Princeton's fourth recruit already. In case anyone's still paying attention, Johnson's starting to do a pretty good job, at least in terms of recruiting.

Hummer is a quality get - perhaps the best incoming recruit in the League. I haven't seen anyone else on their list that says Johnson is doing better than Amaker or Miller (or Agel, Jones or Dunn). But Hummer is definitely legit.

Didn't say Johnson was doing better than anyone else in the League; relative to recent Princeton history, on the other hand...

Hummer has been a very solid player at the HS level in a top notch league when surrounded by great athletes like Max Kenyi (who has potential Ivy player of the year talent), Tyler Thornton (committed to Duke), Cameron Johnson (football scholarship at UVA), etc. But he is not real big (6'8" ???), not a great jumper, not sure how good an outside shooter... I think there is some question about how well he will make the transition to the next level, especially at a program where he will not be surrounded by the type of teammates who draw most of the attention from the opposition and make everyone else around them look better. Good luck to him.

He's listed at 6'6 or 6'7 from what I've seen. I'm with ibnsmi on this one: For everything that I read about him, he seems to get praised as exceptionally talented, but I don't quite have a grasp on what he actually does well. Sometimes those guys are the most dangerous, because if they don't have a "thing," then they don't have a "thing" to shut down. Also, that "generalist" characterization would seem to be a good fit for the Princeton offense, no?
He was in the ESPN100 earlier this recruiting season (he has since slipped off) and apparently Cal was on his list, so the evidence suggests he should be a player.

He's skilled and strong and plays HARD. He's definitely going to need good players around him to make Princeton a title contender, but he alone will make them better up front than they have been the last couple years.

It remains to be seen how he does in the Ivies, but Hummer sure came up big last night against Pitt bound big man Talib Zanna. Very impressive!

Another recent item:
"Center Ian Hummer scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed 15 rebounds..... and Gonzaga rolled to an 86-76 victory over second-ranked DeMatha in a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference game in Northwest Washington....'He's strong and plays under control,' DeMatha Coach Mike Jones said. 'It's amazing he can get that many points around the rim, but that's what he does. He's relentless. He's a very good player, but it's not like anybody didn't already know that.' "
Gonzaga is currently ranked No.1 in DC.

Well you LOOK like one of those Princeton posters that used to post here, but they left long ago, so I figured maybe you have hacked into this old poster's account.

You're right about his family connections to PU, but I'm not one of them.
As for the silly claim about someone hacking into my account, jeff wasn't being serious, just trying to yank a chain about the recent dearth of PU posters. He's really quite harmless.

Ian is unquestionably an excellent athlete. He also just won the MVP in the Alhambra classic and helped lead Gonzaga to its second straight title there (a little easier this year, given the absence of the Philadelphia teams, which was a real disappointment). But he is smaller than advertised. Solid, but only 6'5" not the 6'7" or 6'8" claimed. So my question is, is that big enough to play inside in the Ivies? Does the Princeton offense mitigate a size disadvantage somewhat? He hasn't shown much of an outside game to date (but that may be more due to what Gonzaga needed, than what he is capable of).
