Its interesting how fast the COlumbia Basketball team changed directions this year. Almost 3000 fans showed up for the 3rd round of Jones v. Jones at Levien after Columbia just swept Dartmouth and Harvard. Everyone was excited of what this season could be.

By coming out flat against Yale and a 2nd half implosion against Brown, the Lions triggered their downward spiral towards what is now a 8 game losing streak.

Even though it seems like the team will have a even better team next year, the question lingers: "what happened?"

What happened with the characteristic 2nd half killer instinct against early season opponents?

What happened to clutch free-throw shooting and timely 3-pointers?

What happened to a season with so much potential?

You guys played a very soft non-league schedule which while getting you some W's did not prepare you for the league. There is always the winning breeds a winning attitude type argument but the extremely weak out of conferences matchups clearly did not help the team readiness for an ivy season. This is the way things go with a young, building program though- fits and starts. Clearly the team is improving though and should look better in the league in the future.

Last year there were no expectations, and Jones came in so late that he didn't have any of his own recruits. With nobody but Murphy graduating, this year he began to mix in his own recruits with the old team. There were bound to be growing pains associated with that, and there probably will be next year, too. Despite the seeming down turn, I think Columbia is actually still headed in the right direction.
