In response to Old Bear
Its official. This dude can coach. I stood in a stunned Stanford student section tonight as the Princeton Tigers... err... Oregon State Beavers (with the orange and black uniforms and Robinson's Princeton system, they sure looked like the Tigers-- if I squinted really hard, Beavers Center Roeland Schaftenaar looked a bit like Judson Wallace) took the Cardinal to school.
If Stanford is the Harvard of the West, then Oregon State sure looked like Princeton West, at least as far as hoops goes. Stanford seemed totally unprepared to defend the classic Princeton backcuts as Schaftenaar repeatedly found cutters with bounce passes. He also had a bevy of nice hook shots in the lane. Meanwhile, Calvin Haynes played the Mark McAndrew role to the tune of 25 points.
On defense, Oregon State was playing an active 2-1-2 zone which had Stanford flustered and making mistakes. Before you knew it, the score was 16-2, Beavers. Stanford battled back a number of times, but Oregon State was always there with an answer.
This is not the Stanford team that destroyed Cornell in last year's tourney (they lost 14 feet worth of lottery picks and starting PG Mitch Johnson missed this game with injury) but this is still massively impressive for OSU-- this team looked like a joke last year (0-18 in the pac-10) and they just pulled the sweep of the Bay Area schools.
Kudos to Coach Robinson. That family is on some kind of roll right now.
