Northstar Basketball Blog (http://blog.northstarbball.com/) has a summary of the schools being considered by various players particpating in the Prime Time Shootout. One player lists Columbia as his leader. Below are his remarks as well as his ESPN evlauation. I am sure some of you who live close to Columbia can add more.

Steven Frankoski ’09, St. Benedict’s (NJ): Columbia, Cornell, Princeton, Lafayette, Colgate, and Vermont
Offers: Columbia
Favorite: “Columbia is definitely my favorite.”
Note- Regarding the schools that have not offered, Frankoski said, “I’m their top guy, so that’s cool.”

FROM ESPN:
Steve Frankoski | Shooting Guard Hometown: Newark, NJ St. Benedict's Prep (NJ) Position rank: Shooting Guard # 150
Ht: 6'1" Wt: 165
Last Updated:2/17/2009 Data provided by Scouts, Inc.

Scouts Grade
79

Evaluation
December, 2008: Frankoski is a long and lean wing that is a terrific shooter. He is a specialist that can knock down the open three off the catch with ease. He sprints the lane in transition where he spots up, comes off screens and reads penetration in the half court to get off his shot. He has a quick trigger and knows his job when he enters the game. He will make limited moves off the dribble. He likes to go between the legs and finish with a mid range pull up. Frankoski plays with energy and emotion as well.

April, 2008: This wiry combo guard has a tremendously high basketball IQ and impressive work ethic. It translates well in his game as he never takes a possession off. Best quality may be his jumper though as he is an absolute sniper all the way out to 24 feet. He has tremendous grades and will most likely spurn higher offers to play in the Patriot League.

The scouting report certainly sounds promising, but I weary of how players sound vs actual ability to play on a higher level. If anything he sounds very slight at 165 and may need a few years to bulk up to play at a college level. Note Matt Johnson and how good he sounded and yet it appears he will not be ready this year and possibly next year as well.

I think one difference between Matt and this kid is the caliber of the high school programs they are coming out of.
