Hello, everybody! Frustrated Columbia Fan here [on a busy day at work, obviously] with this week's edition of

S C H A D E N F R E U D E
S H O W D O W N ! ! !

Our first game is Penn vs. Princeton. This one promises to be a very exciting matchup with lots of implications for frustrated fans everywhere. If Princeton wins, they might knock Penn down a peg in the NCAA seeding, thus increasing the chance that they'll lose (and earning the gratitude of Ivy fans around the globe). But if Penn wins, they deal Princeton the ultimate humiliation--their first-ever losing Ivy record! Welcome to the wrong side of the tracks, Tigers! So how about it, fans? Who do you root against?

(tick, tick, tick)

Time's up! And FCF says: Root against Princeton! A Quaker loss would be nice, but enough lousy teams from penny-ante conferences (you remember, Lion fans--we played most of them this year) are going to win their pointless post-season tournaments that a loss won't necessarily hurt Penn. And you know they're going to lose in the NCAAs anyway. But a losing record for Princeton will be a gift that keeps on giving. Let's go Quakers!

And now it's time for game number two, Brown vs. Yale. If Brown wins, they keep Yale from tying Cornell for second place, leaving just one school besides Penn with a winning record. But if Yale wins, Brown has almost as bad a record as our beloved Lions. We'll still have the basement to ourselves, but Brown will be on the staircase. OK, how about it, fans? Who do you root against?

(tick, tick, tick)

Time's up! And the answer is: Who cares? Big whoop either way is what FCF says. But on the other hand, do we want Cornell to start getting uppity? Maybe Yale should win after all. That way the league wouldn't break 1-6-1 but rather 1-5-2. Yes, now that you mention it, a Brown loss would rate a little higher on the Schadenfreude scale. So let's go Elis!

Well, fans, I'm afraid that's all we have time for. Join us next week for another exciting edition of

Why would you want an Ivy team to lose in the NCAA's? The league has a Mickey Mouse image as it is, sending teams that lose every year in the NCAA's only helps reinforce an image that the league needs to overcome if its ever going to make any progress.

My father used to refer to it as the crab barrel theory. Anyone getting close to the top gets pulled down by those incapable of doing so.
Unfortunately, it's also a theory subscribed to by too many Ivy Presidents and their puppet-like Athletic Directors.

Lighten up, guys. I thought Lion King's post was one of the funniest things that I've read on the board for a while. Besides, he's rooting for Penn to beat Princeton.
