Commemorating the Lakers' 50 years, the Los Angeles Times has run stories on the various stars, position-by-position. James Worthy and Elgin Baylor were named the top forwards. But, Jim Millian and Rudy LaRusso, Dartmouth '59, were also listed as major contributors.

Jim replaced Baylor and was part of the team which had 33-game win streak.

McMillian wasn't just part of the team -- he was the missing piece! The day after he replaced Baylor in the starting lineup was the day the legendary 33 game winning streak began. And McMillian ended up averaging a shade under 19 points per game. West, Goodrich and Chamberlain were bigger names, but McMillian's contribution was almost as big. And a little known bit of trivia: Happy Hairston, the other forward, played his college ball at NYU, giving the Lakers a pair of New York forwards, both of whom cut their teeth in the PSAL (Hairston at Erasmus and McMillian at Jefferson), and both of whom were born in North Carolina.
