mrjames scoffs at the Lions' chances, but the way I look at it, what they've lost from last year's team is Jason Miller, who flourished when several others went down after looking highly questionable at the start of the year, and a mercurial 3-point specialist in KJ Matsui. This year they're getting back Foley, their best point guard in at least a decade, and adding two solid transfers, all with a history of injury troubles. That's a huge gain overall if the injuries work out -- a big if, I realize, but even if it's only two of the three, that's an improvement over last year's 7-7 team.
If Craig can return in time for league play, I'll expect a winning record, though the way things usually work out for Columbia, he'll probably get in game shape just after they play their two with Cornell. If he's not available, a lot will rest on Crimmins's shoulders, but big men usually show their greatest improvement between freshman and sophomore year (he said hopefully). On the whole, I expect Columbia to be as good as last year or better, and since the overall talent level in the league will be about the same, I predict another season close to .500, in the league and overall (secure, as always, in the knowledge that nobody will remember my prediction next week, let alone in March).
