At this time I doubt that even Coach Engles knows the likely starting line-up. All four of the freshmen players could start early in the season, but probably not in the opener at Rutgers. However, Coach Engles did say on Ivy Media Day that Rubio de la Rosa will not be playing at the point this year. That statement would suggest that the two freshmen guards, Avery Brown and Kenny Noland, will be sharing the starting point position. Up front, I would expect that initially, Liam Murphy will be the starting forward with the freshman, Blair Thompson, close behind him. The fourth talented freshman, Zinou Bedri, is the likely starter at center.

Yes, after listening to the interview, I came to pretty much the same conclusions. My one question is whether Bedri will actually replace Tavroff at center?

If Turner is healthy he can be a good PG. I think it is unlikely that any of the first years will be early season starters.

There's just one problem with that prediction.

He is not listed on the roster.

Neither Turner nor Harding on the roster. No idea why, but that's the way it is.

Harding's absence was noted a couple of weeks ago. Turner's is a new development.

FWIW, Emmanuel Onuama is also no longer listed on the Lions' roster - but that's a loss of a different magnitude than that of Turner and Harding.

True, and I hadn't noticed. He never really developed as much as we hoped. On this team, he would probably be the 4th option at center behind Bedri, Tavroff, and Stankard. It is therefore not surprising that he left.

Onauma would have given the Lions a bit more depth at the center position as Bedri and Tavroff are the only two true centers on the team. Stankard, at 6'9," is certainly tall enough to play inside, but his skill set is more that of a forward than a center. Stankard is likely to be a very important part of this year's team because of his size and athleticism. I see him developing into a very good front court player for the Lions. Keep in mind that two other promising bigs, Arop Arop and Richard Nweke, were initially expected to be Columbia freshmen this year, but apparently opted instead to take a post graduate year at prep school.
