It was a PENN rollout. Why do our students care if Dunphy continues to coach Temple?

What do they care about how he did at Penn?

I found that rollout appalling (and I used to create Penn's rollouts back in the day) and classless. Do these kids have any idea how GREAT a coach Fran was for Penn and how well the program did during his tenure? As someone else would say, "SAD"!
This doesn't seem anywhere near as offensive as this rollout that came out when another former Penn coach visited the Palestra. It went: "Why is Penn State so gay? Because they come out with their Dick Harter."

The roll-out was in section 205 or 206, and was followed later by "Quakers don't fight off or on the court."
Not the Penn student section.

The Caleb Wood three may well have been the fulcrum, or play on which the game turned. The Referee crew, or, more accurately, one of the three refs, called an offensive foul on A.J. Given the ebb and flow and pace of the game, the call was (at best) way off. Seeing it play out in plain sight right in front of us, it was bizarre. Wood’s three may well have turned the game. Guess we will never know. It goes to show that in The Big Five, Penn has to win, somewhat consistently, to get those sorts of calls to fall its way. Guess it is a “respect†sort of thing.

If that shot counts, we have a very high chance of winning that game. I still don't know why that call was made, as the call came long after the pick and was made by the outside ref behind the shooter, with the whistle coming on the shot.
If Glen Miller were our coach, he would be moaning how he drew up the perfect play to win the game.

I absolutely HATE the phony noise, disco, blaring music, etc. that drowns out any spontaneous crowd noise or band music. I would sooner have a quiet gym than phony PA hype. Does ANYONE like it?

I've taken a bunch of looks at it. My guess is that the awkwardness of how the defender shifted to the side to get out of the way of it might have made it look in live action like your typical hip check pick foul, where you keep your feet stationary, but bump the defender by shifting your hips or upper body.
It wasn't an illegal screen though. Minor upper body move, yes. Could you call that... maybe... but only if you've been making pure, stationary screens a point of emphasis all game, which I didn't get the impression they were doing.
Still think it was more about what the defender did to avoid it (which I don't think was intentional to draw a foul) that made it look like an illegal screen than anything.

Can you calculate Penn's percentage likelihood of winning had that shot counted?

No and they rolled out some dopey announcer lady who is so knowledgeable about things Palestra that she had to read the promos from note cards. They took the individual scoring/fouls off the Yang Family scoreboard this year to fit in two ads. I guess we can assume that the current administration has no idea or cares about what makes the Palestra sacred.

One of the many WP calculators has to have some way of adjusting what happened to see WP change. I don't know of where to look off hand (I probably should...), but I'd suspect it has to exist out there...

Actually can kinda back into it because Penn took the 3 pt lead on the previous possession. At that point, Temple was 28.5% to win. When it scored to knot it at 51, it was now 43.5% to win (because it didn’t have the ball). That next possession was the one where Wood hit the waved off 3. Temple moved to 54% to win because now it was tied and it had the ball. Assuming that the odds to win would have been similar (but slightly worse) than when it trailed 51-48, Temple being down 54-51 would have had it at, say, 25ish percent to win instead of 54%.
So that call flipped it from Penn solidly favored to win (but not guaranteed) to Temple as a slight favorite.

As bad as it was last night, the noise was even worse last weekend against Cornell and Columbia. I complained about it heavily and had my fingers in my ears during timeouts. The whole building vibrated and I got a serious headache. I can't believe the coaches can be pleased. Can the players even hear them in the huddle? At least they turned down the volume a little bit, but it's still horrible, horrible, horrible!

I might note that the "screaming lady" has only been there for the Toledo and Temple games - notice anything consistent about the results from those two games. It's GOTTA GO but not from a superstitious standpoint - however, if that's the justification to get rid of it, it's fine with me.
The other "new" Big Five wrinkle that we saw yesterday is that the visiting team (Temple) is not allowed to bring it's band - I guess that's so you can hear the disco better. As I think we're the visiting team next week (since we've been the home team against LaSalle and Temple), does that mean the Penn band can't come next Saturday?

I've watched the play dozens of times including in slow motion. The ref who made the call was in perfect position behind Wood to see the Temple player coming around the screen. If anyone was in position to make the call, it was he. However, there is no way AJ set an illegal screen. He was well established and didn't move his feet at all. Perhaps he leaned his hip slightly, but there was no contact as the Temple defender came around him. The Temple player did flail his arms and gave the impression of it being much more than it really was, which the ref reacted to. Nonetheless, it was total garbage considering how many times I saw Temple players moving between Penn defenders and Temple ballhandlers. I was screaming about it throughout the game, but it was never called.

It was a bad call at a bad time. They scored to make it 53-51. Subsequently: AJ missed 2 shots on successive possessions to tie it, Max missed FT's to tie, Darnell missed a layup to bring it back to one possession and Temple made FT's.
Despite the ref, we had our chances and didn't execute.

Also, what is with this utterly classless rollout produced by Penn fans?
“Greatness doesn't quit but Done-phy should."
That came from the classless Temple "fans." One of those morons has been trolling this board.
Unless our student section infiltrated Penn's, which I highly doubt based on how terrible and lazy they've become since I graduated, you are incorrect.

Why in the world are big 5 opponents not allowed to bring their bands?? It even looked like there were seats saved for them. And to confirm, the awful Done-Phy rollout was indeed one of our own.
