Wouldn’t that also happen if Yale splits next weekend?

Yale-Dartmouth result is also important to watch. If Brown beats Harvard, and Dartmouth beats Yale, then Harvard beating Yale would flip the tiebreak to Brown.

But none of that matters if Harvard beats Brown, then Penn has the tiebreak locked down.

So you’re saying Tommy’s going to $#*&#* us, aren’t you?

If Y goes 1-1 next weekend but beats H for its win, Y gets the #1 seed no matter what else happens that weekend.

What if they go 1-1 and lose to H

Nope. Penn is still okay there, because either Yale is the one seed (if Harvard loses to Brown) or Harvard is the one seed having beaten Brown as well. In either case, the Penn-Yale tiebreak wins the day (either because Yale is the one seed or Yale is the two seed but Penn and Brown both split with Harvard).

Depends on the outcome of the H-B game Friday night. If H wins that game as well as the Saturday Yale game, then H becomes the #1 seed.

However, in that case Penn still gets in if it sweeps the Cs, since one of those H wins will have been against Brown, thus putting Penn ahead of Brown in the standings and therefore tiebreaks would not be needed.

I’m pretty sure Tommy’s gonna be focused on trying to get a sweep and the one seed. I’d be stunned if he could tell you the path necessary to screw Penn out of the tiebreak. I’d be surprised if he *knew* what the tiebreaks were. Just not how he thinks... he’ll be trying to take two.

Furthermore, in such a scenario Penn and Brown would both end up 1-1 against Harvard in the first tiebreaker (should Penn lose to one of the Cs). The next team in the tiebreaker would be Yale, and Penn would win (1-1 vs 0-2 for Brown).

Maybe make Friday "Senior Night?' Used to have 7 seniors, only 4 now. Start Welsh.

I was joking. Mostly.

I certainly do not think Tommy would intentionally lose.

Merely inadvertently.

If I might opine. Penn was the better team tonight. Anderson had an off night, 2-10 from 3. Choh had 20 pts., 12 rbs, 6 assists, 1 block and 2 steels. Hunsaker was great. Broduer was Broduer despite some great D from Gainey. No complaints about the refs. Game ball goes to Martz, he was the difference maker.

Maybe that explains the epic collapse last night —Penn didn’t want to win the Yale game in the first place.

I want to emphasize the resilience of this team. Friday night could have been devastating. To come back less than 24 hours later and win that game last night says a lot about this group.

I thought there was a series early in the second half that said it all. AJ at the line with Penn down one and Simmons at the scorer’s apparently ready to come in for him. AJ misses both shots with the Brown announcers talking about his tired legs. Has to stay in the game. AJ then scores inside on the next three possessions to give us the lead (I believe for good) and force a Brown time-out.

I also want to point out that we rebounded more aggressively in this one — particularly Scott, Martz, and Monroe.

Finally, I don’t care if Scott starts or not, but I never want to see another DNP for the rest of his Penn career.

It's the same kind of resilience we saw last year when the team had its back to the wall. That's why I just shrugged when people criticized Donahue for the meltdown at Yale. He can't play the game, but he can get them ready to play, and they were ready to play both games.

Have to think our odds are 90% to get there now (I'll leave the particulars to Mike James) but I am confident this coach won't let up at all, so I can say without thinking I'm angering the basketball gods that we will have as good a shot to win it as anyone if we get there with a first round matchup against Yale.

We can (and will) tear SD a new one over handling the press (much better last night but still a bit shaky) and the abysmal FT shooting that made this too close. We also have to give him his due, I’m sure with help from his Seniors who have seen this movie before, for promoting a culture of resilience. I mentioned this at the end of the Yale thread, and it is worth stressing here. He must have a little Parcells in him.

I expect this team will come out with their hair on fire next week and contest every possession relentlessly.

The total collapse at Yale isn’t just on Steve. He didn’t drop the ball or dribble to the corner or forget to come to the middle, or dribble into 3 opponents. They handled the press break at Brown just fine. He had the right strategy for the press break, the players just didn’t execute.

Thanks. Now let's keep Yale in that first spot and let Harvard and Princeton kill each other. My god, the Ivy Tournament was a great idea!

Please ignore everything I ever wrote criticizing the idea of a tournament.
