6 10' Blair transfer from Montverde...keep an eye out for Penn and him. Saw him recently ... under recruited .. better prospect than Nana who wanted Penn but Steve ignored, this yr think he's been close to a 16/10 kid for Brown

His video looks like a kid we can use. He has athleticism and size. I realize it was a highlight video, but he appears to have more touch around the rim than Spinoso. He can make defended layups with or without the backboard. While he has strong physical attributes, he didn't look explosive at this stage. That's perfectly fine if he really develops his fundamental skills.

He’s only getting 16 and 9. Makes it a totally understandable miss. If it was 16/10 Steve should have been all over him!
More seriously, I see why Nana might not be a system fit for us. But he also might have been in the range where you figure out how to adjust the system for him if he wanted to come to Penn. Oh well.

Thanks as always for the insights. Not surprising unfortunately on Nana front because I was excited about him as a prospect and annoyed we lost him to Brown. I thought we got out recruited, so I'm not sure which is worse.

I was going to say if there was a thumbs down button I would hit it, but turns out there is a super old school thumbs down button via radio button on the post. At our level, there is always a fit for a skilled and athletic 6'8" 220 pound kid. Our "Power Forward" right now apparently is a 6'4" 205 kid who shoots once every 7 minutes (9% possessions). And I really like George Smith, but I really don't like him as our 4. Recruit the best players and figure out how to use them.

I get the issue, but small ball with 4 players who can handle the ball, shoot, and pass seems like an OK idea to me. I don't think George Smith is worse on D and rebounding than Holland.
That said, I'd welcome a new big man who would fill in those gaps.

On looking at more of his video, I would say that I'm getting more high on Ihekwaba. I see a player who runs the floor, has hands, can finish, plays defense, and has athletic tools. I see room for him to become even more than he is today if he can develop quicker and explosive footwork and be a stronger physical presence. He seems decent as a rebounding forward/center, but he's not yet the player who will clear people out of the paint and rip the ball away in a scrum. He has the potential, though.

Smith is significantly worse at rebounding than Holland, both offensively and defensively. He is an excellent perimeter defender, but certainly can't handle kids as big as Holland can inside (where he mostly has to defend). This is not a knock on Smith, I like him (just needs to shoot more). But I find it really hard to believe we can find ::checks notes:: more than 0 minutes in the lineup for Holland.

This year, Holland is rebounding better than Smith. Not sure the sample is significant enough to declare Holland the better rebounder though (which of course is impacted by your point about playing time). Smith’s rebounding last year was better than Holland’s career numbers, for instance. To my eye, both guys are ok rebounders, and whether they are getting them relates as much to role as anything. The last couple of games George has been the 4 in some senses, but he has tended to guard the top perimeter scorer for the opponent. That doesn’t necessarily put him in position to get a lot of boards.
In terms of playing time, I thought we tilted too small against Lasalle. But the Belmont game, we did the opposite — we played big for too long and only came back when we went small. I think we are still figuring out the combinations and a little bit of who we are. I also think Laz is eating into Holland’s time. They are much more similar players, and so I think there is more chance that somebody kind of wins out there. For now, it seems to be leaning more and more toward Laz.

I bet Holland sees the floor tonight
Seriously though - I don’t understand why he isn’t playing. I thought he definitely deserved to be on the floor.

FDU-Floram, a former Vanderbilt estate near Madison NJ, home of the Devils. The price we pay for not playing Temple or Drexel.

If the Penn play by play guy (Joe Tordi, probably spelling wrong) says it is a tradition by Steve Donahue to bring Division 3 teams to the Palestra one more time...
Our friendly reminder of how lame/sad it is to play not one, but TWO D3 teams in one home season. Ffs.

Midweek in early December with school semesters ending/exams beginning is likely a hard sell for teams like that, which have limited budgets for non-conference travel. Unless you make it a paycheck game of some sort, like offering to pick up the bus charges. But I can’t see Penn Athletics doing that.
The overall difficulty of scheduling in the current environment has led to every Ivy having a game with at least one DIII; Princeton and Yale are among those who like Penn have 2 of them.

At this rate, we may soon be not only playing DIII schools, but joining them.

LOL.
This was a reference back to the discussion of the Ivies difficulties in scheduling and reluctance to directly compensate athletes.
