This is theoretically premature, but I'm certain that Harvard will get an NIT bid.

I also think that it will be more fun being a Harvard fan and watching the NIT than watching Princeton in the NCAA's (and I'm a Princeton grad).

Harvard could very well go deep into the NIT, while Princeton (vs. Kentucky) will unfortunately most likely be a one-and-out.

Good luck Harvard, and considering the lineup you've got coming back next year, please have mercy on the Tigers next year.

It will not go deep in the NIT, because it will be sent on the road unless the NCAA has suddenly become altruistic. 5-seed is the ceiling guys and that'll make things a really tough road.

Predicted by ESPN to upset OK State. Harvard is #6, OSU #3.

Anyone with info on OSU?

Last year's NIT final was a 3 vs. a 4 seed. There's always a shot you get a bitter high major in the first round and ride momentum through the rest.

(And I was going to express my sentiment that Harvard might have gotten jobbed, but having thought about the circumstance the Ivy champ is in, I think you've made out better.)

Based just on KenPom -- #72 in the nation, better defensively (#55) than offensively (#108).

They get a ridiculous 26% of their points from free throws, which is a great stat in an NCAA opponent on a neutral court, worrisome in an NIT road game. Moses and Olukemi seem to know how to draw fouls and Harvard will need Wright and Casey on the floor for maximum minutes. OTOH they are one of the worst three point shooting teams in the country, so Harvard will have a chance to play 3 for 2 a lot.

Bottom line is it's the NIT and the main issue is which team wants to be there. If the Crimson can get over Saturday's heartbreak, you would think this post-season stuff is still fresh enough that they will want to make a deep run. Who knows what Oklahoma State's mindset will be. The last time they hosted an NIT game, they lost to Marist. Of course, that was 2007, so its not like it's the same team.

For sure. This is certainly the nucleus of the Harvard team that will take the floor next year. And, they are pretty much right at the place that their record says they should be. I can't imagine they won't be ready to try to do a little foundation-building for next year.

It's a really good chance to find out who they (and their coach) really are. Getting ready to play in 36hrs is a challenge.

They do get to play at one of the great arenas in D-1 ball, the kind of place that they are going to have to play well in next year to really gain the credibility and experience outside the league that they seek.

I'll be pulling for them. Go Crimson! The future is now.

Especially when you're traveling for 16 of them.

What did you mean on your twitter account by if Harvard accepts the bid to the NIT then next year BCS schools have to play you, is that in the pre season NIT or?

strange that BC is going on the road to Mcneese St, every other higher seed has a home game except Dayton who cant because of the play in games

Sorry if this seems obtuse, but how is this? Is the drive to Stillwater from airport that long?

My point was that scheduling BCS schools is actually pretty difficult (even in a guarantee game with, implicitly, no return), so it would be awesome if the NCAA would force some BCS schools to play Harvard in return for this logistical nightmare.

Would it be considerably worse than going from Boston to Dayton and then to Tampa the next day?

Well, the only one that would really be a big deal would be Dayton to Tampa, but at least there, but only earning a "first four" spot, you would have deserved the disadvantage. Whereas, Harvard should legitimately be a hosting seed in the NIT and shouldn't be put at such a travel disadvantage.

Both teams have to travel to Dayton so travel is sort of a wash there.

But weren't you saying before that there was no way Harvard would be hosting a game?

Sure. And there was pretty much no way that TCU or Boise St. was playing for a national title. Just because you know something is going to happen, doesn't mean that it should happen and doesn't make it any less unjust.

I've said this before, but I LOVED the NIT experience in 1999.

I remember watching on ESPN/ESPN2 as Princeton took down Georgetown, NC State, and led Xavier -- by 12, I think -- at the half before losing (65-58). If the guys had held on, they would have advanced to the "Final Four" at MSG...that would have really been something.

Also, the seeding/road game for Harvard is ridiculous, but in the end, it's not such a bad thing for the Crimson (being a young up-and-coming team), since they can use the NIT as prep for future high-profile contests. And having the odds unfairly against them by playing in front of a hostile BCS crowd serves that goal better.

How could you force a BCS school to play a game in a 2,100 seat gym (a reason I'm sure the NIT won't play there), especially when Colorado drew a whopping 954 to Lavietes? If Harvard played a game at the Fleet Center would any students go? Would any Bostonians?

Or did you mean to force the BCS team to play Harvard at home?

Me too! We went to the Georgetown game and it was so much fun. Terrific atmosphere.
